What would be more suitable for celebrating the 50 th birthday of Goethe-Institut in Indonesia than launching a newly edited version of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “West-Eastern Divan”?
On this special occasion, Goethe-Institut Jakarta and the German Embassy host an evening of poetry and music, featuring traditional Gamelan with an innovative twist and declamations of J. Accompanying the reading, the renowned Gamelan orchestra Kyai Fatahillah from Bandung presents not only a repertoire of traditional pieces, but two entirely new compositions by German composer Prof. Dieter Mack.
With “Telah Berpilin Timur dan Barat”, new edition of Satu dan Segalanya”, the long out of stock Indonesian translation of Goethe’s “West-Eastern Divan”, the thoughts of the German national poet on the relation between eastern and western culture, his admiration of Islam are finally made accessible to the Indonesian public again.
